Rowland Publishing earns prestigious awards from the Florida Magazine Association

Honors include top overall awards for 850 Business Magazine and Tallahassee Magazine

ORLANDO (Aug. 13, 2010) – Rowland Publishing, the premier publisher of upscale magazines in Northwest Florida, brought home four prestigious awards from the Florida Magazine Association’s Charlie Awards banquet at the conclusion of their annual conference on Friday night. The awards included top statewide writing honors for 850 – The Business Magazine of Northwest Florida, and high honors for the longest standing title, Tallahassee Magazine.

“We are proud to have earned these distinctions by the Florida Magazine Association and the top industry professionals who judged the statewide competition, and are especially proud that 850 was recognized as the Best Written Magazine both years it has been publishing,” said Brian Rowland, President of Rowland Publishing and publisher of the magazines. “This is truly a testament to the talented team of professionals I have the privilege of working with every day.”

The wins included:

  • 1st Place Gold “Charlie” Award: Best Written Magazine (Consumer, less than 50,000 circulation), 850 – The Business Magazine of Northwest Florida. Veteran journalist Linda Kleindienst is the Editor of 850.
  • 2nd Place Silver Award: Best Overall Magazine (Consumer, less than 20,000 circulation), 850 – The Business Magazine of Northwest Florida
  • 3rd Place Bronze Award: Best Overall Magazine (Consumer, less than 20,000 circulation), Tallahassee Magazine
  • 3rd Place Bronze Award: Best Feature (Consumer, less than 20,000 circulation) for “Teen Spotting” in Tallahassee Magazine’s September/October 2009 issue. The piece was written by Rosanne Dunkelberger and her daughter, Mary; illustrated by Marc Thomas and Daniel Vitter; with photography by Scott Holstein; and designed by Saige Roberts.
  • According to the Florida Magazine Association, the coveted annual Charlie Awards “represent the pinnacle of achievement in Florida magazine publishing.” The 2010 entries, representing work from May 2009 to April 2010, were judged by an independent panel of 26 top industry professionals – from writers and editors to photographers and designers – from outside the state of Florida. Founded in 1954, the Florida Magazine Association is the largest state magazine association in the nation.
